The life of a Girl Gone International is packed with highs - adventure, novelty, experience, joy! -  but there are many lows to be found on the path. Our GGI survey 2019 revealed that the majority of us at some point experience loneliness, homesickness, frustration and fear with many of us feeling especially vulnerable as a woman overseas. The survey found that is is not uncommon to feel trapped in toxic relationships or situations due to a lack of access to information, resources or support networks abroad. Some GGIs also reported moving overseas in search of safety, anonymity or a fresh start after a trauma. GGIs also told us that they regularly struggle to access mental health services abroad due to language barriers or cost.

or are dealing with an old or more recent trauma. All of these are heavy loads to bear especially if you are far from friends, family and the familiar.

Founder of Girl Gone International Anne Scott started GGI because she found herself deeply socially isolated as she moved from city to city, year after year. Community and friendship were the lifeline that Anne needed. That same GGI support network has helped and empowered thousands of other women over the last 9 years wherever they are in the world.

While we truly believe that female friendship, travel and community is a vital form of therapy and crucial to our mental health, we recognise that there are times that we need the support of a professional for a short time to get over a hump or over the longer term to navigate a trauma we have been carrying with us for years.
